On Wednesdays and Sundays I won't be making a black history month post but, any other day check back on my blog and see what the day's topic is!
Thursdays are going to be "Throwback Thursdays" and this is where I will actually put the black history in black history month.
I plan on doing a short biography on a person of history on Thursdays but, since it is the first week of black history month I'm going to give a brief history on how important slaves are.
America would not be where it is today without the help of black slaves. Our black ancestors developed this land. They were the ones who labored, they raised their kids, they were the ones who knew how to grow the crops. Without the slaves, America would have probably still been the Native Americans land since slaves were the backbone of the economy and without the economy America wouldn't have been making any money. Black slaves built America. And to not discredit the Native Americans, without their help the European settlers would have been dead in the first place.
No slaves = No work being done
No work being done = No trade
No trade = No revenue
No revenue = ??
The reason why I am mentioning this is because the slaves are kind of put on the back burner.
Of course, we all know how they were treated badly and how they labored but never in history books do they mention the fact that everything relied on the slaves. Without slaves where would America be? The southerners knew how important the slaves were which is why they seceded from the union. They founding fathers knew how important slaves were which is why when they wrote the constitution, they decided to focus mainly on the rights of the white males and deal with the slave thing another time.
It may be time for us to stop pitying the slaves and to start thanking them.
If they had known how much power they possess can you imagine how different America would be?
