New Glasses and No Lashes

By Imani Johnson - June 07, 2017

So, a couple of months ago I ordered some glasses off of the site called Zenni Optical. I had heard about Zenni Optical from my aunt who had ordered some cool unique frames and that was something I desperately wanted. I usually only wear contacts. The last time I had a new pair of glasses was at the beginning of my freshman year of High School, and they were just plain, black, rectangular frames that made me look nerdy. So yeah, it had been a minute and I needed a glasses upgrade. I didn't want those basic frames you get from Walmart, I wanted glasses that had some sort of personality to them, so Zenni was my perfect option.

I know what you're thinking...
Prescription glasses online!?
Yes, it was a simple and easy process that I was nervous about myself when my aunt told me about it.
But, I simply put in my prescription and my glasses came in without any problems.

Now a while ago when I was in Korea over winter break I decided that I wanted to try eyelash extensions and I loved them! To be able to wake up and feel naturally pretty just because your eyelashes were longer and fuller was amazing to me. Every time I blinked I felt as if my lashes would give me the ability to fly.

But, I decided to take them off... myself... and that was not a good decision.

The first reason as to why I wanted to take them off was because it made it difficult to put on eyeshadow and eyeliner since they kept on getting in my way. When I would put on make up some of the make up residue would still be near my lash line and I wouldn't be able to get it completely off. Another reason I wanted to take the lashes off because they were falling out (from washing my face to vigorously) and I didn't feel like getting them redone (it costs an arm and a leg to get redone).

A picture of me with my glorious lashes.^^

Now that you know the reasons I decided to take them off let me explain to you why it was probably not the best idea to do it myself.

So, since I had in my mind that I wanted these eyelashes off I began to do research of some ways to take them off without ripping out my real eyelashes. The most common way based off of my research was to use some sort of lubricant such as oil or vaseline and massage it on the eyelashes and they would come out.

I found that to be inaccurate.

The massaging didn't take off the lashes. I don't know what type of glue was used to adhere the fake lashes to mine, but it was not letting go.
So, I bought some DIY lashes from Walmart since I knew it came with the lash glue remover. I tried the lash glue remover and still the lashes were not coming off.

By now my eyes are super greasy from the oil, vaseline and lash glue remover. So, I decided that i'll use the lash and brow comb to try and finagle these lashes off and technically it worked. But, some of my real eyelashes were still attached to the fakes and ended up also being removed from my lash line.

By the time I was done I barely had any natural lashes left. Of course now that months have gone by my lashes are almost back to the length they used to be before the fake lash fiasco.

Do I regret taking the lashes out myself? Yes, sort of.
If I could do it all over would I still do it myself? Yes, the price of getting the lashes taken professionally didn't seem worth it so, I would've probably ended up taking them out myself all over again.
Would I ever get eyelash extensions again? No, I wouldn't get them done professionally but, I would do the fake eyelash strip or fake individuals and apply them myself.

I hope you'll learn from my mistakes!!

  1. I don't understand people who only have one or two pairs of glasses. Glasses are sexy. Being of the four-eyed nerd tribe I will tell you the way there are people out here who are collectors of sneakers, purses, etc... I have become a connoisseur of eyewear. In fact, I currently own over 75 frames and counting. Don't be limited.
