Today Tales of a Lame has a special guest post from my friend Tyshaia Earnest. She is a fashion merchandising major I've met here at school and is also a writer for Her Campus. You can check out other interesting articles she's written here.

It is the year 2017 and there are no reasons women should not be searching for ways to constantly improve themselves. For aspiring girl bosses, there should be NO days off; It is always something productive we could be doing.
As women, it is important to understand that our journey will be much easier if we seek knowledge and insight from other women that came before us. One of the easiest ways to acquire that insight and advice is to read. There are many books out there written by women who devoted time to share their story with hopes they will inspire and advise other women. Don’t get me wrong, reading can be really time consuming, which is why audio books and pod cast are growing in popularity (but, those are for another post). Nevertheless, I still made time to enjoy a few reads this summer.
Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht
In Leave Your Mark Aliza Licht, a Fashion Public relations executive, assures us that she was in our shoes before. Licht is a very knowledgeable pioneer in the fashion industry. The causal writing style and voice of Licht made her book an easy and quick read. When I got caught up in my reading, it really seemed like I was having a conversation with her over dinner. This book is perfect for anyone who is preparing for a career post-graduation.
The Little Book of Success: Laws of leadership for Black Women
While in college, all women of color should read this book!!! Not only do the authors give the readers advice on how to improve their leadership skills, but it’s also the perfect book for self-reflection (which you should try to make a daily habit of). I am little upset, after reading this book, I found the workbook version for about $22 dollars, $4 dollars more than the regular book. Anyways, no matter what point you’re at in your professional life, there are relevant and common issues addressed. Ultimately, this self-help book teaches you how to get your seat at the table and own it
