For most of us summer has come to an end, as we begin our next year of school.
I recently just finished my first week as a sophomore in college. It still feels weird saying I'm a sophomore when it seems like yesterday I was a freshman and the day before that I was in high school. I do realize that this is an extremely cliché thing to say but as Ferris Bueller said "life moves pretty fast."
Most of this summer was spent working. Yes, I was in Korea but, I didn't really get to explore or enjoy being in another country. All I did was stock shelves, so all those people at Camp Humphrey's had me to thank for keeping their aisles lined with Pop-Tarts and Ocean Spray juice... you're welcome.
When working this full time job I realized that something bad had happened. I had become complacent in this monotonous life of working and coming home, sleeping and then waking up to do it again. Everybody around me lived this lifestyle my mom, step-dad, co-workers. Some people may find satisfaction with this lifestyle, but when you are ambitious and have your own personal goals that lifestyle can end up being detrimental.
You end up saying that you are "too tired" to do anything else which I completely understand because, I lived it. I told myself that I was "too tired" from work to work on some of the things that I wanted to do that made me feel more complete.
It wasn't until my last week of work that I finally started creating. Of course not working gave me so much more free time to do what I wanted, but if I was to simply manage my time better and not give myself any bull shit excuses I probably could've created so much more.
Anyways for most of this week the posts are going to be stuff I made this summer so enjoy!!
I made this top from an old thrifted blazer I got a while ago. I was drawn to the blazer because of the pattern but never wore it because the fit of it was outdated so, I up-cycled it. For most of the pieces I created over the summer I up-cycled since, I didn't have the chance to go to the fabric store plus, there was a whole bunch of clothes that nobody was wearing upstairs just sitting there asking for a new life.
Up-cycling also ends up helping the environment since a lot of clothes are being thrown away (thanks to fast fashion).
The back of the top is made from some faux leather pants that fit poorly and I knew I would never wear again.
The inspiration from this top came from some of the straight neckline tops and dresses that I had been seeing lately and with the plaid print kinda reminded me of the late 90's early 00's vibe. Mixed with a little bit of punk.
